Mathew Kioko Kasee

A powerful Kivaa Ward (Masinga constituency) politician, widely known for his leadership slogan “Ninye Ngamuuna”, loosely translating to; “I will rescue my people”, on Friday 22nd morning posted on his facebook account to clarify his stand on the rumors trending on social media platforms, of his decampment from the Wiper party.

“…My attention has been drawn by rumours of my decampment from the Wiper party to the Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) by some people both on the ground and in various social media platforms. While I would have loved to remain silent, It’s also necessary for me to comment and lay straight the stories as we head to the tail end of the campaigns..”

“My people, I have always been there for you, and I will continue being there for you kama kawaida.. A lot is being said, rumours are moving around, na nengi kove kindu kitemuthya”
he added, twisting and hiding information in his usual witty quotes, that he is well known for.

“My Vision and wish In Politics Is an inclusive kind of leadership, with the people, for the people, A System That Works For Everybody, A Social And Political Environment Where Everybody, Every Section, And Every region Not Only Counts, But Is Also Seen To Count, but having said that, we have to listen to the people, what do they want. I will do what they want, two weeks in politics is like a year..”, he added before disconnecting our call.

Mr. Mathew Kioko, popularly known as Kasee, is well known in Masinga constituency as a ‘background kingmaker’ by way of supporting and strategizing for winning candidates in previous elections, and who commands a sizeable number of votes from Kivaa ward, has been conspicuously silent since the shambolic wiper primaries where he narrowly lost to the incumbent by less than 200 votes for Kivaa Ward MCA ticket.

In the midst of his silence, rumours have it that several political camps have been approaching him to support their gubernatorial candidate, mainly Wavinya’s Wiper team and CCU Waita’s camp. Whatever comes out the various talks is a topic for another day. “It would be a big win for any camp that manages to convince this man to back them,” said a former MCA from Yatta constituency, and a local opinion shaper.

“Mathew is a brainy, charismatic and influential leader, able to command a sizeable number of votes around the weuni region, given a chance, the guy is valuable,,” added the former MCA.

His Kivaa ward political block seems intact and is currently regrouping for the coming elections, and him being the most sought non contender from the ward and the larger weuni region, whatever move he makes will be very strategic and valuable to not only him, but his people too.

As the race comes to the last stretch, it’s becoming evident wiper is facing turbulence with dozens of the camp’s foot soldiers decamping to rival camps, mainly Waitas and even though Mathew Kioko is playing his cards close to his chest, he has been actively campaigning for Azimio, and speculation is rife that he is headed to waita camp.

At the moment, the MP, senate, W/rep, and governor candidates are scrambling for swing votes, and this desk believes whoever wins “Kasee” swing block will have an added advantage of sweeping Masinga constituency, based on the more than 10k votes he is capable of commanding, and that are up for grabs.
