“Let me be very clear here now and then, I will be running for Machakos county governorship seat using a Wiper Party ticket. Machakos needs a leader who understands the problems of the people not movie makers,” Kiala said, adding that he has no fear of challenging his boss Governor Alfred Mutua come 2017 General Elections.

Speaking on K24 TV breakfast program on Monday 26th Sep, Kiala said that he will be vying for Machakos County gubernatorial seat through a Wiper Party ticket.
Kiala said that Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement is a political party and is bound to fail. “Machakos and the rest of Ukambani is ‘Corded’ than ever before and there is no doubt about that.

People have realized that Maendeleo Chap Chap is a political movement that doesn’t have their interests at heart,” he added.

The Deputy Governor said that Mutua doesn’t prioritize the people’s problems and goes for what he thinks are their priorities and ends up being wrong. He cited many incomplete projects in the county which he said didn’t auger well with the people.

Kiala who officially launched a civic education program a fortnight ago at 680 Hotel Kiala said the event dubbed ‘launch of Ugatuzi na Kiala’ (Kiala for devolution) marked the beginning of extensive civil education throughout the county in order to educate voters about the responsibility of devolved government.

It is believed that Kiala, who has already sent out invitation cards to the event, intends to use the forum to officially declare his interest for the Machakos gubernatorial seat currently held by Dr Mutua.

“Unless people are correctly and adequately informed about the role of devolved government, they will be least likely to challenge any form of bad leadership and that is what we want to achieve in the long run,” Kiala said in the interview.

Also eyeing Dr Mutua’s current job is former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti, who is also the Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) party leader.

In the last general election, Mutua beat Wavinya and several other aspirants including former CBK deputy governor Thomas Kibua, and IT specialist Titus Ndundu to clinch the gubernatorial seat on a Wiper party ticket.

However, it will be interesting this time round to watch how the contest goes, especially after Dr Mutua’s launch of Maendeleo Chap Chap and unity movement as his likely political vessel for his next stab to governorship

Kiala has been at loggerheads with Mutua over several issues affecting the county as well as their political inclinations with Mutua leaning towards Jubilee while Kiala remains loyal to Cord.
